We had our first meeting regarding a 25th Class Reunion and it went very well. It was nice to see Debbie Aldridge Burroughs, Kent Eaton and Mike Robinson again.
I’ve set up a separate email address for information about the reunion. The email address is murphyreunion1984@gmail.com . I will be using it from now on for any correspondence regarding the reunion.
Here is where we are at…
We are undecided on a weekend in the fall, but have a couple we’re looking at right now; both have pros and cons.
October 9, 10, & 11, 2009 – this is homecoming at Murphysboro High School against West Frankfort High School and Columbus Day weekend. This is also SIU-C Homecoming weekend with a parade Saturday morning and football game in the afternoon.
September 18, 19, & 20 – this is Apple Festival weekend and there is a home game against Benton High School. The Kiddie Parade is on Friday afternoon, Grand Parade on Saturday morning, Drums at Appletime & the Queen Pageant on Saturday evening.
(We know already that one of our favorite funny men, Todd Ellis, won’t be able to attend if we have the reunion this weekend due to his many commitments with the Apple Festival events.)
Both weekends will be busy in the area with all of the events outside of our reunion, but we need your help to decide which weekend is better. Or if you think a different time would be better such as the summer.
Please email Laura Glotfelty – Ebersohl at the new email murphyreunion1984@gmail.com and let the reunion committee know your thoughts about which weekend you would prefer.
Currently we are looking at doing the following events for the reunion.
Friday night – Attend the football game then go to a casual get together event. We are awaiting word from one of our local classmates if he can host a bonfire type get together. If not we would look at meeting up at some other location.
Saturday night – A dinner dance as we’ve done in the past.
Sunday afternoon – A family picnic as was done at the 20th reunion.
In the last couple of years there was talk about making some kind of memorial to our classmates who have died, but nothing has been decided yet. If anyone has any suggestions, please share those ideas.
So, please email us at murphyreunion1984@gmail.com and answer the following.
Which weekend do you want to see the reunion take place?
Any comments about the suggested activities for the reunion weekend?
Any suggestions for a memorial in honor of our deceased classmates?
Thanks so much!
Laura

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to share some really sad news with you all. The Class of 1984 has lost another member today...Brad Wilcox died from injuries sustained in a car accident on Sunday, August 27, 2006. I know that Brad was a well liked person back in school and got along with everyone...he will be sadly missed by his family and friends. Please keep them in your thoughts and prayers through this tough time!
I will post more information as I get it...I'm sure the obituary will be in the Southern Illinoisan on Thursday, August 31, 2006...probably in their online edition also.
That is 4 from our class that we've lost since graduation....Jim Hunziker, Angela Lindsey, Dan Adams and now, Brad Wilcox. Something tells me that Jim, Dan and Brad have hooked up to shoot some hoops, hit a few baseballs and maybe even throw a football already!
