Who’s Who of the Class of 1984
Have you wondered who is doing what since we graduated Murphysboro High School? Well according the 20th Class Reunion update booklets, the MHS Class of 1984 is represented in a variety of occupations.
There are several classmates who have retired from or are still serving in the US military, with each of the four branches, Air Force, Army, Marines, and Navy, represented. A few of our classmates are helping to keep the world a little safer while working in the private sector, such as corrections officers, members of the police force, and one who is in the Department of Homeland Security. . One classmate retired from the military prior to the 20th reunion and started his first full-time civilian job while another classmate will retire from the military in a few months and embark on a civilian career.
Many of the classmates are working in the business and corporate world ranging from accountants, managers, administrative work, bankers, sales representatives, consultants, analysts, and marketing coordinators.
In the medical related field, the Class of 1984 has a dentist, dental hygienists, nurses, a clinic supervisor, a physical therapist/instructor, a psychologist, a pharmacist, and one veterinarian.
MHS teachers would be proud to know there are a few writers and educators from the Class of 1984. While a handful of classmates are working in construction, and various areas of the computer field.
One classmate is a flight attendant, one owns a trucking/ready mix company, and one is a swimming pool builder with his own company, while another owns a creative consulting business. One classmate is a sign language interpreter and another is a real estate developer. There is a truck driver, a mechanical engineer, a director of human resources/dispute mediator, a custodian at our alma mater, a lab technician, and a speech language pathologist.
There are several members of the Class of 1984 who are, as one person stated in the update book, domestic engineers, responsible for the upbringing of our next generation and the operating of a household and family. This may be the hardest working field in which one can find herself.
There is a great variety of professions found among the MHS Class of 1984 and who is to say that those will not be different at the next reunion. In society today is not uncommon for a person to switch occupations unlike that of the society our parents were raised. It will be interesting to see how many of have switch positions in our forties, or to find how many of us are actually retired at the next reunion.
